This year for career day I decided to reach out to a wedding photographer. I quickly received a very positive response which secured my career day. The photographer I shadowed was named Marie Monforte. She takes pictures of weddings, family photoshoots, portraits and more. I initially wanted to shadow a landscape photographer but then figured that most landscape photographers travel. So I chose to do the best next thing, being wedding photography. I got to shadow Marie twice. The first day I shadowed her shooting a wedding. It was very interesting seeing her on the move rapidly taking pictures of everything. Not only did I get the pleasure to shadow her at a wedding but two days after we met again and she showed me her editing process along with letting me interview her.
Something that I knew before going into this profession was that it is a difficult job to do. Two people that you may or may not know are giving you the opportunity to shoot their wedding. One of the most important days of their lives. Having all of that pressure on you can for sure cause you to get overwhelmed but it is essential to stay calm while also making sure you're capturing all the most important moments. Something that I didn’t know is how much of a people person you have to be to take pictures of people. You have to be sure to make whoever you're taking pictures of comfortable.
I really enjoyed interviewing Ms.Monforte because I had so many questions that I was eager to hear the answers to. We talked a lot about editing pictures, income, customers, college, basically everything that had to do with becoming a photographer. I was very grateful for all the tips that she gave me while shooting. Some being that it's better to underexpose your pictures because you can salvage more details and to always look at what you're shooting. I also was very interesting to hear about her advice college wise because its something that I should be thinking about as a sophomore. She told me that she would recommend going to a college for photography and as many workshops as I can out of school.
I am very interested in photography, especially landscape. Because it's so hard to make money as landscape photography I believe that its a good choice to keep my mind open to other styles of photography. Especially because at this point in my life I know that I want to do photography in the future. Because next year we will have a whole month of internship I am hoping to find a landscape photographer that I could shadow. It’s my dream to be a landscape photographer so if I had the opportunity to shadow one for a month it would be a dream come true.
