This project there wasn’t the best group dynamic. I feel that I had to carry my partners throughout the whole projects. They didn't really want to workand then when they did want to work they wouldn’t really tell me. They would take the mobile panels and run off to paint them even if I already painted them. In my group there was Sofia and Mafer. Once they took the panels it took them a whole period to paint one panel that is 3 inch by 3. There wasn't really much that went well in collaboration. One thing that was nice though, was when the mobile was due I was putting it all together and then it fell on the floor and wasn't equal anymore. So Sofia and Mafer helped it become equal again. An area that I could grow on as a group member is by trusting my partners more on pieces of the projects I guess.
Once I look back I see that there were a lot of things that we did in humanities for this project. We started by reading Euridice. That was sort of how we jumped into this project. Then after that we got to choose our top three continents that we wanted to learn more about and in the end our teacher assigned us one( I got Africa). After we got assigned one we got to choose a state from that continent and a myth from that state. My group and I chose egypt and The Princess of Bekhten. The we designed 9 panels for our myth/and state for our mobiles. And laser cut 6 and hand cut 3. I really enjoyed learning about egypt. We had to make a presentation for it so we got to go really in depth about it. We got to learn the politics, history, culture and more. I used humanities thinking when we researched information for our powerpoint about egypt. I had to cross reference and make sure we were using a reliable source.
Physics was very important in this project. We had to make a mobile with all nice of our panels and make it equilibrium. We had the torque diagram and the mobile. The torque diagram was where we had to make a diagram on the mobile and show all of our math we did to determine where pieces had to go to make it balanced very neatly. Then for the mobile we had to figure out how to get equilibrium without having one piece of string going through the middle of all the sticks. I had some troubles when doing the torurge diagram and what math I had to do have it all correctly but luckily I had many peers that helped me. When making the mobile and the diagram we had to weigh each panel and calculate how much how much force was pushing down and torque. When doing the arithmetic I used a lot of math thinking. And when making the overall mobile I used physics thinking.
Something that I learned in Engineering is a little bit more about the scroll saw. We had a little infosession on it and got to learn all the safety tips on it. We also got to learn how to make circles with it. Something else is we got Physics warm ups a few mornings. So additional to Physics class we got to have little lessons in Engineering. We also got to learn how to perfectly paint over something without going outside the lines with the masking technique.
My groups final product turned out really well. I really like the panel designs that my partners and I chose and they got laser cut out beautifully. Also for the second layer, the panels that we had to draw/paint ourselves, came out really good as well. The colors we chose made everything look really nice and professional. Exhibition also turned out really good. I had a great time going to the elementary school and sharing my mobile and my story. My partner and I got a pretty big group of children but most of them were listening and all of them were asking questions. I think I did a pretty good job this project on being the leader. I offered my work ethic and my leadership and in the end with some help from my partners everything came out great. I would give myself a pretty decent grade for the learning outcomes this project. I did good in work ethic because even though there were some challenges I kept working hard. In collaboration I tried my hardest to work with my group. In oral communication I discussed everything that needed to be done with my group and in the presentation I believe that I spoke well. In written communication I looked over our myth to try to make it more understandable for our elementary schoolers. And for content knowledge I feel I did good on researching in depth on my country and really understanding the history, politics, etc. The learning outcome that I feel that I am strongest in is definitely work ethic. No matter what project I feel that I can always bring work ethic to the table. I always try my best and keep working. And mostly this year I feel that I have been slacking off less. The learning outcome that I feel that I need to grow in would be collaboration. Even though we had a lot of deadlines and there wasn't that much time to be behind my partners trying to make them do work I feel like I could have pushed them to work harder.I also believe that I did a good job with our class values. I was responsible throughout this project by making sure all my work is turned on, on time. I showed grit by even when things got tough with getting equilibrium with the mobile, I persevered and kept pushing myself until we got it hung up. I showed respect my cleaning up my space after working with different things from the maker space. I showed integrity by helping people put their mobiles up after my group was done.
